Terms of service

Last updated 30 September 2026. Between you and Wanderist LLC, a Massachusetts limited liability company ("we", "us").

Using Wanderist means agreeing to these terms. They cover what you can expect from us, what we expect from you, and — most importantly — what happens when people who met through an app meet in the physical world.

An Outing means a group activity a member arranges through the service and that others ask to join. Wanderist is for platonic Outings; it is not a dating service.

1. Who can use it

You must be 18 or older. You must not be barred from using the service under any applicable law, and you must not create an account after we have removed one of yours.

One account per person. You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your sign-in credentials to yourself.

2. Meeting people in person — read this one

Wanderist helps people arrange to meet. We do not run background checks on anyone. Identity verification, where a member has completed it, confirms that a government ID appears genuine and matches a selfie. It says nothing about whether a person is safe, honest, or a reasonable person to spend an afternoon with.

Badges, host tiers and verification marks describe activity on the service. They are not character references and must not be treated as an assurance of safety.

You decide who to meet and you attend at your own risk. We are not a party to any Outing, do not supervise Outings, and are not responsible for what members do before, during or after them. Meet in public where you can, tell someone where you are going — the app has emergency contacts and live location sharing for exactly this — and leave if something feels wrong.

If someone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services. We can act on an account; we cannot send help.

3. How to behave

Do not:

  • Harass, threaten, stalk, impersonate or endanger anyone.
  • Use Wanderist for dating or sexual solicitation. It is a platonic service and that is not a stylistic preference — it is what people signed up for.
  • Post content that is illegal, hateful, sexually explicit, or that infringes someone else's rights.
  • Advertise, recruit, run a commercial scheme or collect members' information for use elsewhere, outside the advertiser tools we provide for it.
  • Create fake Outings, fake accounts, or manipulate attendance, ratings, badges or host score.
  • Attempt to bypass blocks, capacity limits, moderation, or any security control; scrape the service; or interfere with its operation.

Report anything that breaks these rules using Report in the app.

4. Your content

What you post stays yours. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce and display it for the purpose of operating the service — showing your Outing to people nearby, your photo in an Outing album, your message in a group chat. That licence exists so the app can function, and ends when you remove the content, except where it has already been shared with others or where we must retain it under section 8.

Only post content you have the right to post. Do not post other people's photographs without their agreement.

5. Hosting Outings

If you host, you are responsible for the Outing: that it is accurately described, that you have any permission needed to use the venue, and that you comply with applicable law — including licensing, health and safety, insurance, and tax.

You choose who joins. You may not discriminate on any basis protected by applicable law.

If you cancel, tell your guests, and refund anyone who paid.

6. Paid events

Between you and the host. When you buy a ticket, the contract for the event itself is with the host, not with us. We provide the platform and process the payment.

Payments. Handled by Stripe. By paying or receiving payouts you also accept Stripe's applicable terms. We never receive your card details.

Our fee. We take a percentage of ticket sales, shown to the host before they publish a priced event. The percentage depends on the host's tier and may change; the figure shown in the app at the time of publishing is the one that applies.

Refunds. Each host sets a refund policy, shown to guests before they pay. Hosts must honour it. If an event is cancelled, guests are refunded. If a host will not honour their own stated policy, contact us and we may refund on their behalf and recover the amount from them.

Payouts. Hosts must complete Stripe onboarding and identity verification before receiving money. Hosts are responsible for their own taxes.

Chargebacks. Disputing a charge you actually authorised, instead of asking for a refund, may result in your account being suspended.

7. Promotions and advertising

Boosts, promoted notifications and advertiser campaigns buy reach. They do not guarantee attendance, clicks, or any outcome, and are not refundable on the basis that an Outing was under-attended. Everything paid for is labelled as promoted or sponsored.

We may reject or remove any promotion or campaign — automated screening runs before anything is shown, and human review follows a flag.

Advertisers and venue partners are additionally bound by the advertiser terms accepted in the app when the account is created.

8. Moderation, suspension and deletion

We may remove content, restrict features, or suspend or terminate an account that breaks these terms or presents a risk to other members. Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you why. For serious safety issues we will act first.

You can delete your account at any time from your profile. Some records are retained afterwards — reports you filed, and transaction records — for the reasons set out in the privacy policy and on the account deletion page.

9. The service itself

We are still building. Features may change or be withdrawn, and the service may be unavailable at times. Wanderist is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not warrant that members are who they claim to be, that Outings will happen as described, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of profits, data or goodwill. Our total liability arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or US$100.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for gross negligence or willful misconduct. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer-protection law that cannot be waived by agreement, including Chapter 93A of the Massachusetts General Laws. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your content, your conduct on the service, any Outing you host, and your breach of these terms or of the law.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. For material changes we will give notice in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Wanderist after that means you accept the updated terms.

13. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and the state and federal courts located in Massachusetts have exclusive jurisdiction, except where the law of your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings elsewhere.

Please contact us first — most things are faster to fix than to litigate.
